Prints from over 50 second, third and fourth-grade students from Maryland and Ocotillo Elementary Schools were exhibited at the Washington Recreation Center on April 10. Students created the artwork in collaboration with artist Judy Bales as part of her project to design a new bicycle bridge at Maryland Avenue and Interstate 17.

The students worked with Ms. Bales, a fiber and metal artist from Iowa, for two weeks in February to study and discuss bridge design, and to draw their own bridges before making cardboard block prints from their drawings. The resulting prints will be incorporated into a permanent relief that Ms. Bales will create for the support walls of the ramps of the Maryland Avenue Bicycle Bridge.
