LEADER SEARCH PHASE 2

There is a critical need for new leadership in Phoenix’s vibrant and diverse arts and cultural community. In order to address this need, the Office of Arts and Culture, in partnership with the Arts & Business Council of Greater Phoenix and the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, has created LEADER SEARCH – an initiative to identify an ethnically diverse pool of talented community leaders interested in serving arts and cultural organizations as board members or volunteers. Launched last year, Leader Search trained 39 community leaders on arts governance issues and distributed information about these individuals to the local arts and cultural community. The majority of these 39 original participants are now actively engaged in leadership and volunteer roles with local cultural institutions.

In continuation of the success of the first phase of this program, Leader Search 2 was launched this year with the involvement of Mayor Phil Gordon. A diverse group of community leaders was invited to a reception at the Phoenix Art Museum on April 19 to learn more about the challenges faced by local arts and cultural organizations. This event was followed by an Arts Governance Workshop and the annual Arts Board Connection on May 10, where participants were able to meet directly with local arts groups. Individuals who attended the workshops have been added to the city’s Leader Search Roster, a resource for Valley arts and cultural organizations seeking potential board members and volunteers.

The current roster of leaders interested in sharing their skills with the arts community can be viewed online at www.phoenix.gov/arts.
