The centerpiece of Winged Flight is a three thousand pound, fifteen-foot tall steel sculpture inspired by the form of an airplane’s vertical stabilizer. The sculpture contains the cut out silhouettes of twenty-five planes historically flown at Deer Valley Airport. The Deer Valley Pilot’s Association assisted the artist in selecting the represented planes. The plaza the sculpture stands on contains a section of flight map showing the location of Deer Valley Airport. The sun passes through the sculpture, playfully projecting the shapes of the planes onto the surface of the flight map.
