The adaptive reuse of existing buildings for new purposes is a priority of the city of Phoenix. Redevelopment of older buildings, whether they are historical, dated, or in established areas of the city, promotes a more vibrant community. Because strict adherence to current building code standards may cause insurmountable challenges to prospective building owners, the city has adopted the International Existing Building Code (IEBC) to provide a method of relief from modern building code requirements while simultaneously assuring safety. A web page is being designed for the Adaptive Reuse Program. Information may be obtained by calling 602-534-7344, or by e-mailing denee.mckinley@phoenix.gov.
