International Women's Day
2001 Luncheon

The annual celebration of International Women's Day commemorates the continuing struggle of women to improve their lives and raises money for scholarships for women to continue their education. Proceeds from this year's celebration, with the theme "2001: A Woman's Odyssey," funded $74,000 in scholarships to nine local colleges and universities.

This year, to mark the 10th annual International Women's Day Luncheon, we were proud to host keynote speaker Pegine Echevarria, an internationally known author and motivational speaker on leadership, mentoring and personal and professional success. Echevarria's experiences in the corporate world and in social services have given her a unique understanding of how women can use the opportunities they are given to create fuller, more successful lives. She took this year's crowd of nearly 1,400 luncheon attendees on an odyssey of self-discovery and inspiration.

The 2002 event will be March 5 at the Phoenix Civic Plaza. For sponsorship opportunities, contact the city of Phoenix Equal Opportunity Department at 602-261-8242/voice or 602-534-1557/TTY.
