Kara Kalkbrenner
Chief Kalkbrenner began her career as a Phoenix Firefighter in 1985.
She has promoted through the ranks beginning in 1994 to Fire Engineer,
then to Fire Captain in 1996, Division Chief in 2000, Deputy Chief
in 2004, and Assistant Chief in 2005.
Chief Kalkbrenner has been involved in a vast array of assignments
throughout her career. For more than 15 years, she has worked in
Emergency Response as a front-line firefighter. Since promoting to
a Chief Officer in 2000, she has managed the Dispatch Center, Personnel,
and Public Affairs Sections. In addition, she has had an active involvement
in all areas of training throughout her career, such as Recruit Training,
Battalion and District Training, as well as being an adjunct instructor
for the Fire Science program at Maricopa Community Colleges.
Currently, Chief Kalkbrenner is assigned as Assistant Chief of the
Administrative Division. This division includes acting as a liaison
with City Hall, working with Labor Management, overseeing Budget
and Fiscal Management, and the Planning Section. She has an AA in
Fire Science and a BA in Fire Service Management.
Kara is a native Phoenician. She lives in Phoenix with her husband
Kevin who is an Assistant Chief for Phoenix Fire assigned to the Physical Resource Division. Kara and Kevin enjoy traveling and spending time with
their extended family.
