DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The Fire Protection Engineer assigned Lead is responsible for supervising a group of Fire Protection Engineers and coordinating plan review activities for the Fire Department. The Lead responsibilities are in addition to regular plan review duties within the incumbent’s area of expertise, including making the overall plan review team schedule, assigning projects and being accountable for meeting targets, serving as a central point of contact for customers, addressing concerns and resolving sensitive issues and certain technical problems for assigned projects, coordinating peer evaluations/corrective efforts among team members, and providing on-going training for Fire Prevention staff. These responsibilities distinguish the Lead assignment from the base class.

The Lead assignment differs from the Team Leader assignment in that the Lead assignment is responsible for supervising Fire Protection Engineers only, not the multidisciplinary team of engineers and other plan-review professionals that Team Leaders coordinate and supervise.
