ASSISTANT SECURITY SYSTEMS SUPERVISOR

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to assist the Phoenix Convention Center Security Systems Supervisor to plan, direct, coordinate, and supervise the security function for the Convention Center Department facilities. This classification is responsible for providing extended coverage to monitor security contracts for house and event security, and ensuring the safety and security of all venues and persons in those venues, primarily during weekends and evenings. Duties are performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of a Security Systems Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists with the supervision of the security function for Convention Center facilities;
- Monitors the work of contracted security personnel;
- Coordinates activities in association with security monitoring and patrols in the downtown area;
- Assists the Security Systems Supervisor in the development and maintenance of a long-range security action plan, including staffing requirements and equipment needs;
- Works with internal staff to ensure event planning includes considerations for crowd management, alcohol control, traffic management and life safety requirements;
- Works with clients and service partners to ensure emergency plans are in place and security staffing is adequate to execute those plans;
- Prepares various reports and memos;
- Plans and coordinates preventative maintenance for badge access, security monitoring, and data storage systems and equipment;
- Plans and identifies security needs for facilities in the downtown area;
- Prepares time and material cost estimates on proposed security projects;
- Develops system specifications, writes Requests for Proposals, assists in selecting vendors for security services, and writes administrative procedures required to support operations;
- Prepares budget requests and other written reports relating to security system activities;
- Monitors budget expenditures;
- Evaluates work standards and methods to ensure efficiency;
- Prepares status reports of projects and weekly activities and evaluates personnel performance;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

Additional Requirements:
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
- Some positions will be required to work irregular hours, weekends, holidays, or evenings.
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending on work location or assignment.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Two years of experience overseeing the physical security services of a large organization, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
