HUMAN SERVICES MEAL DELIVERY AIDE - PART-TIME

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform various duties and functions as required in the Home Delivered Meal Program. The position requires that an employee work four (4) hours per day, which is normally from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Duties may include all of the following: packaging meals and delivering them to homebound elderly; assisting with the maintenance of adequate records; and assisting with the planning and implementation of the route schedule. Employees receive direct supervision from the nutrition manager or senior programs supervisor, and they must have the ability to relate well with the senior citizens. The Meal Delivery Aide may perform other related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Operates a vehicle to pick up items for delivery to homebound clients;
- Portions food into food trays according to guidelines and packs home delivered meals;
- Delivers hot and cold meals to clients;
- Monitors clients for unusual circumstances pertaining to health, behavior, and well-being;
- Prepares and posts required programmatic records accurately;
- Attends scheduled informational and training meetings;
- Demonstrates acceptable attendance;
- Maintains positive interaction with clients and staff;
- Develops and maintains directions for delivery routes;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:Ability to:
- Methods, materials, and practices of safe food handling and food portion guidelines used in meal delivery and related activities.
- Proper methods to store food for travel.
- Use of street maps or Thomas Guide.
- Record keeping on computer based programs and in written form.
- City of Phoenix, Maricopa County Environmental Health Services, and Area Agency on Aging standards.
- Lift and move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) short distances (20 feet or less).
- Move light objects (less than 20 pounds) long distances (more than 20 feet).
- Bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time (for example, load and unload meal containers).
- Learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and observation.
- Climb ladders or steps to reach objects.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language.
- Work cooperatively with other City employees and the public.
- Enter and exit the cab of a vehicle repeatedly during the work shift.
- Work and drive safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
- Ability to read city street guides, locate addresses and deliver meals in an efficient manner within city limits.
- Stand and walk distances (up to one block or more).
- Communicate with and provide services to both senior and disabled clients.
Additional Requirements:
- This position requires the possession at time of hire, of a Maricopa County Environmental Health Services Food Service Worker card.
- This position will require performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment or shift.
- This position requires the use of personal vehicle on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicle safely; possess a valid driver’s license, have an acceptable driving record, and the vehicle must have a functioning odometer. Use of the personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee does not have personal vehicle insurance coverage.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Requires the desire to provide excellent customer service to the homebound elderly in a pleasant and friendly manner and the capability to read and navigate driving routes around the city of Phoenix. A Food Service Worker Card is required at the time of hire.
