Attorneys provide a wide-range of legal services in employment related areas. The attorneys provide general advice to all departments regarding issues such as the investigation and imposition of employee discipline, compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, labor relations, and employment discrimination. The Section provides legal representation to various city employment related functions such as volunteer programs, the Minority/Women/Small Business Enterprises program and the Deferred Compensation Board. The Employment Section also monitors and coordinates lawsuits being handled by outside counsel, provides advice to the Human Resources and Equal Opportunity Departments, and handles fair housing litigation.
Our mission is to provide effective legal services to the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, and City Departments and to impartially seek justice in the prosecution of criminal offenses. The Law Department is committed to ensuring a diverse workforce to reflect the community it serves.
