Architectural Accessibility and Design
The Architectural Accessibility and Design Committee provides oversight in the area of accessibility needs for people with disabilities in Phoenix public buildings. Examples where pre-construction oversight has been conducted include US Airways Center, Chase Field, Arizona Science Center and Phoenix City Hall.The committee reviews architectural plans to assure ADA compliance and makes recommendations for accessiblity improvements. The committee also serves as technical advisor to MCDI committees and the commission on "built environment" issues.
The committee welcomes you to participate in its activities. Whether you are an architect, an individual with a disability or an advocate for people with disabilities, your input and participation are encouraged. The committee meets at 4:00 p.m. the second Thursday of each month.

Community Awareness and Education Committee
The Community Awareness and Education Committee serves as a link between the Mayor's Commission on Disability Issues and the community. Members work to raise awareness of attitudes that can create barriers or that limit the full inclusion of people with disabilities.The committee is responsible for interacting with the business community to provide information on the abilities of individuals with disabilities. It promotes the hiring of persons with disabilities and works to develop partnerships that link individuals with disabilities and employers.
The committee facilitates the exchange of information to individuals and organizations to heighten awareness of the abilities of people with disabilities, their special needs and the variety of resources that are available to assist individuals, organizations and advocates in optimizing the abilities of people with disabilities.
The committee coordinates a variety of public events including the Save Our Space Education and Outreach Campaign. Its major event is the Ability Counts Awards Luncheon held each October in conjunction with Disability Awareness month. The event provides scholarships to disabled students and recognizes individuals who contribute to the betterment of life for the disabled.

Transportation and Access Committee
The Transportation and Access Committee addresses the needs of individuals with disabilities in the area of public transportation access. The committee's focus is to structure systems that support the inclusion of people with disabilities.Issues addressed include monitoring the Dial-A-Ride program and fixed-route bus system. The committee provides accessibility advice on the Light Rail System and maximum accessiblity at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
The Night Rescue Program, in cooperation with community partners, is designed to provide an emergency trip home for wheelchair users who may become stranded after normal business hours and have need of accessible transportation.
