In July 2008 a committee made up of residents of the Maryvale Weed and Seed area began recognizing up to 10 houses a month as “Properties of the Month” to recognize households that take the time to take care of their property. The homeowners or residents are given a sign to recognize their pride in their home; some are given a $25.00 WalMart gift card and one is given a “Mayor’s Bench”.
In February 2009 the Maryvale Precinct limited the number of household recipients to 5. Now, all recipients receive a gift card and one of those recipients also receives a “Mayor’s Bench”.
Beginning in July 2009, the Maryvale Precinct began selecting a Business of the Month as well. The businesses selected are those that maintain the property and are involved with the community.
