Maryvale Precinct Appreciation Picnic
Sunday, November 8, 2009

Maryvale patrollers had an opportunity to mix and mingle at the Maryvale Precinct Appreciation picnic held on November 8, 2009. Mayor Phil Gordon and Councilman Michael Nowakowksi were some of the dignitaries in attendance as well as several members of the precinct. All of the Maryvale Community Action Officers were also in attendance to say thank you to all of the patrollers for their many hours of committment to the Maryvale Precinct. Hamburgers and hotdogs were cooked and served along with two cakes dedicated to the PNP and Maryavle precinct.

PNP RADAR Training held on September 24th, 2009

The PNP RADAR Safety Program was developed to help reduce vehicular speeding and accidents in residential neighborhoods.

The concept of this program is to have trained Phoenix Neighborhood Patrol (PNP) members use a RADAR gun on residential streets and document speeding violators.  After the information is documented on logs, the license plates numbers and vehicle descriptions are returned to the precinct by the patrol members.  The plates are then run through the PACE system by Police Officers or COPS volunteers, to get the registered owners information, and make sure the vehicle description matches the license plate.  A letter is then sent to the owner asking them to slowdown in their neighborhood.  Our hope is that speeders will slow down, safety for all will increase, and accidents will decrease.

The Maryvale Precinct hosted a RADAR training on September 24 and had 23 PNP members from the Maryvale and Desert Horizon Precincts who were certified to conduct RADAR in their neighborhoods.

September 17, 2009 PNP Group Patrol

We actually had more patrollers show up throughout the evening after the photos were taken.  The evening was ended with a pizza party!  There were 42 PNP members that signed the rosters, plus a few observers interested in the program and family members that joined at the end!  We had several neighbors who came to inquire about the program and will hopefully be joining the program in a future training.
