CALLS TO ARTISTS


Denver, CO - Speer Blvd Bridge - Deadline: July 10, 2009
Project location is the Speer Boulevard Bridge and Surrounding Areas.

The Denver Office of Cultural Affairs is seeking artists working in any medium, including sound, light, earthworks and interactive sculpture, for an original work of art in the area of the Speer Boulevard Bridge and surrounding environment. The selected artist will be working with the design team to incorporate artwork into the park, with possibilities for functional integration, earthworks, and site-specific installation. Because of the high traffic and programming in the area, DOCA is looking for work that integrates into the landscape without being a stand-alone sculpture. Artists will be invited to find one or more locations that would suit their work best. A site visit and walk is scheduled for June 30 at 10:00 a.m. with the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs public art team. Please meet at the Downtown Children’s Playground at Speer Boulevard and Wewatta Street.

Approximately $88,000 is available for public art at this site. This budget is inclusive of all expenses related to the creation of the artwork.

Palm Springs, FL - Fire Rescue Station #31 - Deadline: July 13
Palm Beach County’s Art in Public Places program seeks to commission artists with demonstrated ability in producing artwork in powder coated aluminum and/or surface embellishments to concrete. By spring 2011, a new Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Station 31 will be constructed in Palm Springs, Florida. Artists are invited to design artwork to enhance the new facility’s security gate, fence and/or its support columns. Artwork will be applied onto the powder coated aluminum gate and fence and/or its concrete support columns; all of which will be constructed by others. Artwork designed for the fence and gate must be powder coated aluminum. Artwork designed for concrete support columns may be of diverse media. The selected artist(s) will coordinate with the project’s contractor (gate, fence, support columns) to assure fabrication/installation integration. Additional fencing to surround the entire property will be vinyl coated chain link fence and is not included in the artist’s project scope.

Budget is $36.750. Each artist/artist team that makes a live presentation of their proposal to
the Final Selection Committee shall receive a flat fee of $1000.00.

Artwork shall represent the spirit and mission of the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Department. A wide variety of artwork will be considered including figurative, representational and/or abstract imagery. Artwork should be static, not kinetic. Artwork materials will require minimal maintenance and be durable to withstand exposure to South Florida elements. Artwork must include graffiti-resistant coating. Orlando, FL - Orange County Examiner's Building - Deadline: July 15, 2009
The Orange County Public Art Review Board seeks one or more artist(s) or artists' team(s) to develop artwork for a new public structure that will embrace grieving families in a calming and soothing atmosphere as they come to deal with the passing of a family member.

Up to $48,600 is being put together for artwork for this project. Depending on the cost of the selected artwork, one or more projects by one or more artists will be commissioned. The selected artist(s) or team(s) will be awarded a comprehensive contract (or contracts), of up to $48,600. The contract will cover artwork design, fabrication, materials, installation, insurance, travel, public presentations, meetings with Orange County staff as necessary, identification plaque, and all related incidental expenses

University of Utah - James L. Sorenson Molecular Biotechnology Building - July 30, 2009
Letters of interest and qualifications are requested from artists interested in creating art for the public places of the new James L. Sorenson Molecular Biotechnology and Neuroscience Research facility on the campus of the University of Utah. This facility is designed to support collaborative Biomedical and Neuroscience Research.

Budget $660,000 total - Deadline: July 30, 2009

It is anticipated that more than half of the total budget will be applied toward the commission of a major work befitting the significance of this important national research center. The remaining budget will be considered for art commissions throughout the facility.

American or legal resident artists/artist teams are encouraged to apply. Art selection committee members and immediate families, employees, subcontractors or consultants of LAS Architecture, Prescott Muir Architects and Layton Construction are not eligible for this project.

RFQ Chickasaw Heritage Park - Memphis,Tennessee Deadline: July 17, 2009
Chickasaw Heritage Park will be home to a new walking trail, courtesy of the Riverfront Development Corporation (RDC). UrbanArt is seeking an artist to create an enhancement that will reflect the rich history of the area. The enhancement should feel like an integral part of the park, expressing the quiet, safe environment that residents of the nearby French Fort and visitors to the adjacent the National Ornamental Metal Museum use to relax and view the Mississippi River.


The deadline for this project is 4:00 PM, Wednesday, July 17. The budget is $85,000, and it is open to US artists. Call to Artists - Gainesville Regional Transit Station - Deadline: August 14
The City of Gainesville Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Art in Public Places Trust invite artists or artist teams to submit applications for the Rosa Parks Regional Transit Service (RTS) Downtown Station.

The City of Gainesville Regional Transit System (RTS) has provided public transportation to the City of Gainesville and adjacent areas of Alachua County for over 31 years. RTS is a department of the City of Gainesville within the Public Works Department, and operates a fleet of 88 buses on its fixed-route system within a service area of approximately 74 square miles. This fixed route system consists of 38 routes, including ten routes serving the University of Florida campus. Currently, MV Transportation, under contract with RTS, provides par transit services to the community.

The public artwork will be installed at the Rosa Parks RTS Downtown Station. The space allows for lighting, tile, panels and paving of the artist’s design, choice and materials. The theme is left to the artist’s discretion, but the artist may choose to use the title of the station (Rosa Parks) as inspiration for the design. This public art project will enhance the aesthetic quality of the busy downtown bus station for those who use its services everyday. The artwork will be accessible and contribute to Gainesville’s community pride.

The Art in Public Places Trust is requesting proposals to include the allocated amount required for services rendered. The total budget is $13,000. The budget must include all design costs and/or costs to the artist i.e. design coordination, site design, insurance, construction drawings, travel and sales tax.

Gainesville, FL - Public Works Admin Bldg LEEDS Project - Deadline: Aug 14
The City of Gainesville Public Works Department has set the standard of excellence as an innovative provider of high-quality, cost-effective services as is demonstrated by their recent national accreditation through the American Public Works Association. The Public Works Administrative Office Expansion will house the Operations Division, Solid Waste Division, Engineering Division, Administrative Services, Traffic Management Center as well as General Services Administrative Offices.

The Public Works Administration building will be LEED silver level certified. Artwork that is functional, related to Public Works, and enrich the environment is encouraged. The theme is left to the artist’s discretion, but the artist must keep in mind that the design must include a linkage between the public artwork and the functions of the Public Works Department. This public art project may enhance the aesthetic quality of the exterior façade of the building and/or the interior two-story atrium. Additional potential areas for artwork may include the entrance floor, wall space and/or building corridor design. Artists are encouraged to use recycled materials and products. The artwork will be accessible and contribute to Gainesville’s community pride.

RFQ Pre-Qualified Artist Pool - El Paso, TX - Deadline: August 14, 2009
The City of El Paso Public Art Program seeks to establish a new pre-qualified pool of artists and artist teams for consideration in upcoming public art projects. All interested artists are encouraged to apply online at www.callforentry.org. Applications must be successfully completed following all submission requirements by Friday, August 14, 2009, 5:00pm Mountain Standard Time. Call to Artists Resource List of Pre-Qualified Artists - Los Angeles, CA - ongoing
The Los Angeles County Arts Commission Civic Art Program is establishing a high-caliber Resource List of Pre-Qualified Artists which will be used to select artists for the majority of new County projects. The Arts Commission's Civic Art Program, which began in 2005, is currently implementing over 40 civic art projects for a diverse variety of County facilities including libraries, courts, fire stations, parks, jails, and health clinics. Projects range in size from $30,000 to $300,000+ and are managed by a skilled staff dedicated to facilitating innovative projects which add meaning and beauty to County facilities, and deepen the pride of the surrounding neighborhoods. The Arts Commission anticipates that at least 15 new civic art projects will be initiated each year.

REQUIREMENTS: This call is open to professional emerging and established visual artists and artist teams with no geographic limits. Artists working in all media are encouraged to apply. If artists are applying to the Resource List as a team, the team must be declared at the time of application in the letter of interest.

Charlotte, NC – Deadline: open 
Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is seeking professional artists for design collaborations and/ or public art commissions for its Art-in Transit Program. Over the next few years, Charlotte is building a rapid transit system and will incorporate public art into its stations, park and rides, and maintenance facilities and has allocated $2.3 million for art. Design fees range from $5,000-$25,000: commissions from $25,000-$250,000. The Cultural Exhibits Program is a component of the San Diego International Airport Art Program. Live at the Hope VI Art & Culture Partnership- the City of Tucson and the South Park Neighborhood have developed an opportunity for artists to live, work and contribute to the cultural vibrancy of the south Park area. An art and cultural facility has been developed from a pre-existing five-plex housing unit and is devoted to fostering and promoting arts and culture in the South Park neighborhood and surrounding areas. The center includes two buildings and an outdoor courtyard for classes, workshops, lectures and exhibits. In addition the facility includes two renovated apartment units.
