MARCH 6TH WORKSHOP

  • Thank you to those who participated in the March 6th Visioning Workshop.  We had slightly over 100 people in attendance who spent the morning looking at six specific vision areas - Comprehensive Mass Transit, Enhanced Roads and Highways, Dense City Cores, High Vegetation, High Open Space and Responsible Water Use.  There were a total of 24 vision areas, and these six were chosen because there were divergent opinions expressed at the Village Visioning Workshops, whereas there was more universal agreement about the other vision areas.  The complete list of Vision Areas which came from the Village Visioning Workshops is shown below -

With the assistance of faculty and students from the ASU School of Sustainability, systems maps were created to identify areas of possible conflict within area vision area.  For example, high vegetation might be in conflict with the desire for responsible water use.  Participants first used pictures to create a shared definition for their vision area.  Next they looked at their system map and took turns modifying priorities and adding more detailed descriptions in order to resolve any conflicts.  The final exercise was to write a narrative for their vision area as if it was a reality for Phoenix in the year 2050.

ASU is finalizing the results of the workshop, including crafting vision statements and strategies organized under our four focus areas of Community, Economic, Environment and Infrastructure.  Results will be available after April 30th, 2010.
