Ahwatukee Republic: Sal DiCiccio Is Honored to Join the Phoenix City Council

Councilman Sal DiCiccio
Ahwatukee Republic My Turn
February 2009

I’m honored to have been selected by the mayor and Council to serve as an interim councilmember for District 6.  On Feb. 10, I proudly took the oath of office with my wife Debbie and numerous community residents by my side.  It’s been almost a decade since I served on the Phoenix City Council and, while my life has changed, I still hold firmly to the belief that that this office belongs to you – the public.

I had the privilege of serving District 6 for many years.  In that time I developed a detailed understanding of the city budget, negotiated zoning cases that won the support of neighborhoods and developers and learned the intricacies of city processes.  Today, I will use that knowledge and experience to help the city weather the worst financial crisis of our lifetime.  It is when times are tough, that experience matters most.

Finding good solutions to today’s challenges will require everyone to put their heads together, consider every option and work collectively to execute a plan.  I’m prepared to do everything necessary to help get the city through this unprecedented time.

My goals during the next 11 months will be to focus on job creation, improved public safety and neighborhood preservation.  I will work hard to promote public private partnerships that save city dollars; and, I will advocate bringing alternative fuel industries to the city – including solar and bio-fuel.  I will ensure that budget cuts don’t compromise public safety and that police and fire have the resources they need to keep us safe in our homes and neighborhoods.  Most importantly, I will work side-by-side with neighborhoods to sustain and enhance the quality of life for Phoenix residents.

To be successful, I will need your help and I seek your advice.  I will host an informal meet-and-greet from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Pecos Community Center, 17010 S. 48th St.  Please join me.  If you cannot attend, I encourage each of you to contact me with your thoughts and concerns.  I’m ready to serve the residents of District 6 and I want to hear from you.

As a longtime resident of the Ahwatukee Foothills, I feel incredibly blessed to live in such a beautiful community, and I promise that I will work diligently to represent the best interests of District 6  – as the office rightly belongs to the people I serve.
