Background

The City of Phoenix is committed to sustainable design and construction. The following timeline tracks the development of the program:

    • 2000: City General Plan encourages green building construction techniques
    • 2000 – 2001: Researched possible rating systems
    • 2002: Adopted USGBC LEED process
    • 2002 – 2005: Used pilot projects to gain experience
    • 2005: Pilot program led to informed decision on Green Bldg policy
    • 2005: Phoenix City Council adopts “Green Building” Guidelines: Design and build City buildings to LEED Certified standard
    • 2008: Phoenix Convention Center Certified LEED Silver
    • 2008: Glenrosa Service Center Certified LEED Gold
