Background
The City of Phoenix is committed to sustainable design and construction. The following timeline tracks the development of the program:

- 2000: City General Plan encourages green building construction techniques
- 2000 – 2001: Researched possible rating systems
- 2002: Adopted USGBC LEED process
- 2002 – 2005: Used pilot projects to gain experience
- 2005: Pilot program led to informed decision on Green Bldg policy
- 2005: Phoenix City Council adopts “Green Building” Guidelines: Design and build City buildings to LEED Certified standard
- 2008: Phoenix Convention Center Certified LEED Silver
- 2008: Glenrosa Service Center Certified LEED Gold
