Achievement

TEACHER VENTURE ARIZONA & K-12 PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN MARICOPA COUNTY

TVA provides risk capital in the form of mini-grants to K-12 public school teachers to implement new classroom techniques and educational projects. Many projects impact the entire school and receive national recognition. Programs are administered by a volunteer board of directors. Projects are funded and mentored by people in the business community. Mentors visit classrooms, track project progress, and can provide additional resources.



Leadership - Corporation

ALLIEDSIGNAL AEROSPACE & SOUTH MOUNTAIN HIGH SCHOOL

Support South Mountain High School in creating community leaders by partnering AlliedSignal employees with school staff, teachers and students. Provide enhanced educational/vocational opportunities so students can relate success in school with successful careers. Increase academic performance and graduation rate.

METRO TECH VOCATIONAL INSTITUTE

Advanced students in the Computer-Aided Drafting program operate a small business, with Garrett Engine Division as their primary client. Revenues generated by the class upgrade equipment and software to insure that training is consistent with industry needs. AlliedSignal gains a pool of trained potential employees and has top quality work performed at a reasonable cost. Students gain valuable experience, learn skills that are currently in demand, and understand industry standards for quality and productivity.

SOUTH MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Improve math and science understanding among community college students; retain students in math and science classes. Pair students with tutors who are professional engineers.

ALHAMBRA SCHOOL DISTRICT

Increase third grade students' achievements in mathematics and increase parental involvement in their children's learning.

MURPHY SCHOOL DISTRICT

Provide monetary and clothing necessities for economically disadvantaged students of Murphy School District so that they may attend school with a positive outlook instead of worrying about meals, clothing or electricity in their home.

MR. JOHN F. LONG & CARTWRIGHT SCHOOL DISTRICT

Provide exciting and rewarding educational opportunities for all children, reward students striving for and achieving success, assist those children in need due to family hardship.



Innovation

COOPERS & LYBRAND & MOON VALLEY, THUNDERBIRD, SUNNYSLOPE, AND APOLLO HIGH SCHOOLS

Provide students with an understanding of the types of decisions businesses and management have to make and the ethical dilemmas inherent in those decisions. Students play a competitive, interactive business simulation game in which they make decisions affecting sales and profitability, future growth, and employee work conditions.



Public Agencies/Non-profit

DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC SECURITY & MURPHY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT

Deliver social services more comprehensively, less categorically, and more cost efficiently by setting a full service Family Assistance Center on school district property.



Small Business

ROBERTS/DINSMORE ASSOCIATES AND D.L. WITHERS, INC. & DESERT COVE ELEMENTARY

Integrate architectural and construction concepts into the instructional program with focus on the new middle school campus being built next door that all the students will eventually attend.



Reading

ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF PHOENIX & MOUNTAIN VIEW SCHOOL

Pairs Assistance League members for one-on-one tutoring with an at risk student to help the child learn difficult subject matter. Develop a rapport with the child to enhance the student's self- esteem and positive attitude toward learning. Mentors become special friends to students who mostly come from single parent homes or second family homes.
