Community/Neighborhood Partnerships

ALLIEDSIGNAL AEROSPACE & SEVEN ALHAMBRA DISTRICT SCHOOLS

Through a partnership with AlliedSignal Aerospace, 2,500 second and third grade students are provided a special program to motivate them to improve their math skills. The Superintendent's Math Achievement Club was developed and implemented five years ago to improve students' achievement in mathematics, while involving parents in their children's learning experiences. Each month, the students complete activity booklets at home with the assistance of their parents. Upon completion of the booklets, the students return them to school and receive special prizes. This program has been well received by teachers, students and parents and is making a tremendous impact on improving math skills for Alhambra students.

Community/Neighborhood Partnerships

AMERICAN EXPRESS & ANDALUCIA ELEMENTARY

The American Express Employees collected school supplies the entire summer to give to all Andalucia students. They collected books, notebooks, pencils, erasers, crayons, colored pencils, paste, glue, pencil boxes or holders, and backpacks in which to carry these items. A number of American Express Employees came to Andalucia on September 1, 1995 to distribute these much needed items to the students while they were in class. The employees' singing group entertained in several of the classrooms while the students received their supplies.

Community/Neighborhood Partnerships

BANK OF AMERICA & CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL, ALHAMBRA SCHOOL DISTRICT AND ROOSEVELT SCHOOL DISTRICT

Bank of America's Education Partnerships in Phoenix include a wide range of schools and programs addressing critical needs at several levels. They include elementary and high school job-to-work transition programs, Junior Achievement, Reading Skills Development and many others. Bank of America has committed not only funding but several dozen volunteers acting as tutors and mentors, volunteer teachers, and resources for educators and districts as well.

Community/Neighborhood Partnerships

FIRST INTERSTATE BANK & ALHAMBRA SCHOOL DISTRICT

For the last four years, First Interstate Bank has pursued a business partnership with the Alhambra School District that directly affects students and their ability to be successful in school. In the Alhambra School District, we believe that in order for children to have a positive and successful school career, education needs to begin prior to a child starting kindergarten. To address this need, and with the support of First Interstate Bank, the district now provides Kindergarten Activity Kits to all children entering kindergarten. With First Interstate's generous and meaningful donations, the district is able to provide kindergartners with activity books in both English and Spanish, as well as school supplies to get them off to a great educational start. In addition, the Board of Directors donated $7,000 to the district to purchase multi-cultural books for the top reading classes in the Superintendent's Reading Challenge. Finally, First Interstate Bank has donated money to the Alhambra Foundation for the Future to help graduates of the Alhambra School District continue their education at the college level.

Community/Neighborhood Partnerships

PHOENIX BAPTIST HOSPITAL & ALHAMBRA SCHOOL DISTRICT

During the last three years, Phoenix Baptist Hospital has truly shown an interest in developing a much needed business partnership with the Alhambra School district. Many of the students in the district come from low socio-economic households desperately needing medical assistance. In fact, nearly 85% of the students are on free- or reduced-price lunches. Because of this great need, Phoenix Baptist Hospital committed to helping the district by forming a partnership with Westwood School in 1992, providing an on-site physician every Monday morning to give students medical assistance and prescriptions when needed. This year, the program has been extended to Simpson School. In addition, Phoenix Baptist Hospital is beginning a comprehensive school-site medical program at Andalucia School using family nurse practitioners and residents to serve students. The hospital has also donated the services of a physician to assist the district in servicing staffs on HIV/AIDS at all 11 schools, visiting one school per month.

Curriculum Enhancement and Development

SAMARITAN HEALTH SYSTEM & ALHAMBRA HIGH SCHOOL

Samaritan Health System and Alhambra High School's Center for Medical and Health Studies have shared and educational adventure since the inception of the Medical Arts Magnet program in 1992. Both parties have joined forces for the benefit of students who intend to pursue a career in a medical or health-related field. The partnership has worked to offer students a genuine experience that enables students to pursue their career goals. Samaritan has provided untold hours of time in Board meetings, medical mentoring for students and in providing role models through our guest speakers program. In addition, Samaritan has funded an incentive program, rewarding students for continued hard work and success in their academic classes.

Mentoring Programs

STREICH LANG & CAPITOL SCHOOL

Three years ago a partnership between Capitol School and Streich Lang began with the hopes that students would benefit from two separate and distinct organizations working together. Today the partnership continues to flourish as teachers and Streich Lang share a common vision; that is, all students can learn and deserve the opportunity to have many enriching learning experiences. Streich Lang and Capitol School are united in an effort to demonstrate to students that their education is important. It is the passion for making a real difference in children's lives that has driven the Streich Lang/Capitol School partnership into longevity.

Leadership

FINOVA GROUP, INC. & ORANGEDALE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

FINOVA Group, Inc. has provided financial funding, emotional support, and countless 'people' hours to Orangedale School and its students. They have purchased computers and other useful educational tools, hosted students at their company for career days, and hired students to work at the company during the summer. They have sponsored students at civic events like the Martin Luther King Day Breakfast. Employees volunteer hundreds of hours in the classroom on company time. The FINOVA Dental Van provides much needed care for underprivileged students of the entire Balsz District. FINOVA Group, Inc. has wrapped its corporate arms around an entire school.

Small Business

HAZELWOOD ENTERPRISES, INC. & CREIGHTON SCHOOL DISTRICT

A community that joins together, profits together. One way business and schools can impact each other is through their communities' youth. Challenging and supporting these students to be ambitious and conscientious champions of the future is what Hazelwood Enterprises and Creighton School District hope to accomplish. To achieve this end, Mr. Hazelwood has annually provided funds to recognize the outstanding principal, teacher and educational support person's exemplary contributions. This year, through a Corporate School Partnership, Mr. Hazelwood is supporting a multifaceted competitive Award Program which recognizes both students and staff. The focus is on the content areas of mathematics, science and technology and is in concert with the national, state and district emphasis on accountability and Goals 2000.
