Neighborhood/Community Improvement

ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION and HAMILTON ELEMENTARY

The partnership between the Arizona Department of Transportation and Hamilton C.H.A.M.P.S. began in 1996 with a commitment to turn a vacant parcel of land into what is now called "Learning Tree Park -- Where Anything Can Come True". This Project has given the children of Hamilton School a unique opportunity to make major improvements in their school and community environment. With the assistance and encouragement from A.D.O.T., our students have made accomplishments that create a sense of pride and ownership in their immediate environment. Each year the commitment to continue the development of the "Learning Tree Park … becomes strong along with the relationship between A.D.O.T.

Workforce Development

JOHN C. LINCOLN HEALTH NETWORK and SUNNYSLOPE HIGH SCHOOL

The partnership between John C. Lincoln Health Network (JCL) and Sunnyslope High School (SHS) has successfully graduated 55 students, all as Certified Nursing Assistants. Students build technical, personal, and professional skills as they experience the nursing profession, first hand. Students spend two hours daily at either the SHS campus or JCL facilities. JCL has employed 36 of the 66 graduated students offering opportunity for post secondary education. The community also benefits from the education and career planning its youth receives, and the excellent care the students render. The program has received awards and recognition for its success over the past four years.

Youth Development and Mentoring

ARIZONA PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY AT PALO VERDE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION and CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL

In 1997 the QFE High School Program was established. This unique partnership offers students on their potential and demonstrated ability, the opportunity to take advanced math and science classes during the summers after their sophomore and junior years in high school. The goal of this partnership is for selected students to complete five units of math and five units of science while in high school to be better prepared for their future educational pursuits. The students earn honors credit for each course taken and are paid a competitive daily wage for the seven weeks of attendance.
