Leadership

Wells Fargo and Various K-12 Schools in the Phoenix area and Statewide

Teachers and students in more than 200 Phoenix classrooms benefit from Wells Fargo's Teacher Partner Program. Through mini-grants provided directly to classroom teachers, the program provides new books, supplies for science projects, writing workbooks, ESL, materials, curriculum-related field trips, foreign country classroom study, multi-cultural dance experiences, teacher training, and much more. Students, teachers and the community benefit from enhanced classroom experiences - the result of classroom innovation and teacher creativity and the funding needed for essential materials. This ongoing program is the cornerstone of Wells Fargo's commitment to help improve every child's opportunity for an excellent, well-rounded education.

Neighborhood/Community Involvement

Salvation Army, WorldCom, American Express, Intel and Kenilworth Elementary

The Salvation Army's newly -restored Harry E. Peirce Residence and adjacent classrooms house The Active Learning Project, a partnership of Kenilworth Elementary School, Arizona State University's Academic Community Engagement Services, The Salvation Army Phoenix Citadel Corps, WorldCom, and American Express. Dedicated to providing educational opportunities for the residents of this low income, downtown Phoenix neighborhood, these partners support an ESL and job skills parent/child program, after-school tutoring, a web-page design club, and a summer literacy program for Kenilworth children. The Active Learning Project also provides college students with an opportunity to learn from and serve their community.

Workforce Development

APS and North High School

APS partnership with North High School has flourished for more than a decade, becoming a model for other businesses and schools. Through the partnership, APS has contributed expertise, in-kind donations and more than $75,000 to support student programs and scholarships. The partnership helps students prepare for a lifetime of academic, personal and occupational success through the development of leadership skills, the introduction of new information and technologies, and the integration of the Arizona Workplace Skills Standards into its programs. It also encourages the students to embrace their community's diversity and promote tolerance among their peers in the school setting.

Youth Development and Mentoring

Ted Hibbeler, Director of Native American Education, PUHSD and Phoenix College

The Hoop of Learning program was established as a partnership between Phoenix Union High School District (PUHSD), Phoenix College and Motorola. The program is designed with the goal of increasing the number of Native American students attending college, thus promoting completion of a career program. The program allows participating students to find that they can break through barriers of higher education. They find that they can be successful in high school and college while further enhancing their self-esteem and future outlook.
