Leadership

BHHS Legacy Foundation, Vanguard Health Systems and Alhambra Elementary School District No. 68

Realizing that children cannot learn if they are not healthy, Alhambra formed a valuable business partnership with the BHHS Legacy Foundation and Vanguard Health Systems to provide much-needed medical services to many of our students. The BHHS Legacy Foundation provides the financial resources to the district, and the district partners with Vanguard Health Systems for the services. Jointly, they provide school-based health centers, a mobile health van, dental services, Backpack Buddy Project, homeless transition boxes, head lice treatment, socks, shoes and underwear, as well as funding for student college scholarships. The value of this partnership is $305,500 a year!

Mentoring

Quarles & Brady Streich Lang and Capitol School Elementary

This 11-year partnership was conceived as a way for the firm and its employees to help improve the quality of education offered in the economically disadvantaged neighborhood served by Capitol School. Approximately 125 firm employees serve as volunteer homeroom parents, one-on-one readers in the Success For All reading program and judges in the annual essay contest. Firm and school personnel re-evaluate each partnership program annually to ensure that they are addressing areas of need and contributing to qualitative improvements in the educational experience at the school.

Innovation

Arizona Partnership for Immunization and Genesis Academy

The project is comprised of three groups in equal partnership, Genesis Academy Charter High School, The Arizona Partnership for Immunization (TAPI) and The Immunizers student group. The partnership works to educate teenagers about the importance of preventative health care through immunizations. The teenage community of Phoenix benefits through the educational materials produced by the group that encourage teenagers to become active participants in their health care. The message, production and dissemination of materials have been the responsibility of the teenagers in the partnership with the adults acting in supportive roles only. The message is created by teens for teens.
