Africa LIVE


Senegalese superstar Youssou N'Dour (pictured) led the Roll Back Malaria Concert along with 150 of Africa's finest musicians. 50,000 spectators witnessed the vitality and creativity of Africa and these performances remind us of the beauty and energy of their culture. FINAL AIRDATE: October 3 at 10am and 2pm.

Australian Atomic Confessions


Between 1952 and 1963, Australia detonated atomic bombs on Aboriginal lands. British and Australian authorities constantly re-assured the public there was no danger to these tests. But the people who lived in the radiation zones, discovered differently. Australian military personnel and Aboriginal tribes suffered greatly and fatally from effects of the atom bombs. October 24 at 11am and 3pm.

Calcutta Hilton


A short documentary about a husband and wife who left everything in New Zealand to come to India. They arrived in India's Red Light District in hopes of aiding women working as prostitutes in the poverty stricken town of Sonagacchi. The couple teaches these women that there are other opportunities for them and prove that global change is easier to accomplish then you might think. October 12 at 7:35pm.

The Migrant Workers of Shanghai


China has an estimated 150 million migrant workers who earn very little for very hard work. Families are separated in order to make a living for their children. Working seven days a week, without insurance, and living as second-class citizens, they constantly struggle to gain monetary stability. October 17 at 8pm.

The Secret Pain


As a 16 year old, Kate Kendal was forced to undergo a painful, female circumcision. In Sierra Leone, female mutilation is looked upon as a tradition. Kate travels back to her hometown to investigate why the secret society, Bundu, continues to operate these horrible acts, and why the government has done nothing to stop the physical and emotional pain that affects these women long after the mutilation is over. October 12 at 8pm.

Time Bomb-America's Debt Crisis


A documentary that discusses America's extreme national debt and what economic policies the government is presenting. The film shows why Americans assets are at risk and why democracy is threatened because of this. October 12 at 7pm.

Toumani Diabete's Symmetric Orchestra


Toumane Diabete has mastered the kora, an African harp. He never forgets about the tradition of his culture, but also knows the importance of innovation and creativity. In this film, Diabete metaphorically compares Boulevard de I'independence in Bamako, Mali to his music. No more airdates scheduled.

Walking the Line


The immigration issue facing southern Arizona is unlike any other situation in the United States. With vigiliante groups claiming to do what they believe the government cannot by patrolling the U.S.-Mexico border with weapons, controversy is intensifying. Other individuals feel it is morally correct to provide water and aid to hopeless immigrants searching for a better life in America. This film provides a look into the failed border policy with disturbing images as well as the just side of humanity. October 17 at 7pm.

Who's Afraid of Nuclear Power?


Australia is considered a major greenhouse polluter due to its amount of cheap coal use. Politicians offer going nuclear as a way to resolve the issue. But the conservation movement believes solar and wind energy is the best way to go. This film discusses the major difference between Australia and the Scandinavian nations, who have dealt with problems since the Chernobyl fallout. October 24 at 10am and 2pm.

A World Between


A young Iranian-American visits his father's homeland in Iran to learn about his family. He visits spiritual places, meets his relatives and discovers more about himself and Iranians then he initially expected. October 17 at 7pm.

Making Of


Young Bahta desperately wants to flee to Europe to escape his life in Tunisia. He has a love for breakdancing, a father who criticizes his every move, and a crumbling love life. But after getting into trouble with the law, a group of fundamentalists target him to become their next suicide bomber. TV14. October 17 at 10am 2pm.

Singapore Dreaming


A family heavily in debt struggles to keep it together on a small island in Singapore. Loh Poh Huat is the head of the family, working a job he hates, and taking his anger out on his family. After his son comes back from what appears to be a successful experience at a University in the United States, jealousy and envy run rampant in the family. But after Poh Huat wins the lottery, things take another turn for the worse, with an unexpected outcome. TVPG. October 10 at 8am and Noon.

Waiting for Happiness


Nouadhibou is a small seaside village on the Mauritanian coast, where 17 year old Abdallah is visiting his mother before he emigrates to Europe. Although he cannot speak the local language, he learns many things about his country through the people who live there. TVPG. October 10 at 7pm.
