Join Councilman Bill Gates at March Events

Feb. 25, 2011

Residents have the opportunity to meet with District 3 Councilman Bill Gates at two events during the month of March.  They can join the Councilman and his staff for a community hike at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 5, up North Mountain on Trail 100; the Charles M. Christiansen Trail. The trail is an easy to moderate level hike that has convenient access to parking.  Residents can meet at the North Mountain Visitor Center Parking Lot, 12950 N. Seventh St.

Also, residents can attend the Councilman’s monthly coffee chat from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Thursday, March 10, at Eye Opener Family Restaurant, 524 W. Hatcher Road.  This month’s featured speakers will be Chris Hallett, acting director of the city’s Neighborhood Services Department and Alison King, founding editor of ModernPhoenix.Net.  Hallett will provide an update on the department’s local activities and development, and King will discuss the upcoming Midcentury Modern Home Tour coming thru Sunnyslope in April.  She also will highlight a project she contributed to, “Midcentury Marvels: Commercial Architecture of Phoenix, 1945-1975.”

Produced by the Phoenix Historic Preservation Office and Ryden Architects, Inc., Midcentury Marvels features more than 400 images, some rare, of buildings lost and those preserved for generations to come.  The book will be available for purchase at the coffee chat for $20.
