The Phoenix Public Transit Department has more than $3 million worth of construction work open to bid, with more projects opening for bid in coming weeks. The projects are funded from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
Expansion of the 40th Street and Pecos Road Park-and-Ride will add approximately 300 covered parking spaces, improve street and canopy lighting in the facility, increase the amount of closed-circuit television security installed, and improve landscaping, sidewalks and irrigation. ARRA funding for the project is $3 million. Bids on the project are due to Phoenix City Hall by 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 17.
Bids will soon be opening for the Happy Valley Road / I-17 Park-and-Ride. Work on the project includes the design and construction of a 500-space parking lot, landscaping and irrigation, surveillance cameras and equipment and a dedicated slip-ramp for transit vehicles. ARRA funding for the project is $5.5 million.
The two park-and-ride projects are part of more than $29 million worth of ARRA-funded transit upgrades being built in Phoenix. Other projects receiving ARRA funding include the upcoming refurbishment of Central Station in downtown Phoenix, as well as citywide bus stop improvements.
“Our transit services continue to be in high demand, and these projects help us meet that increased need,” said Phoenix Public Transit Director Debbie Cotton.
