Entrepreneur Magazine Names Phoenix Top 10 Startup-Friendly City
Phoenix is an entrepreneurial city that empowers startup business owners to greatness, so says Entrepreneur Magazine, which named Phoenix as one of 10 Startup-Friendly Cities in its August issue.
The magazine described Phoenix as "The Expander," citing its steady growth over the last 20 years of more than 50 percent, "meaning it's had to expand all the basic services needed for a major metropolis, opening huge opportunities for entrepreneurs." The magazine added that generous loan and grant programs for newcomers and well-developed institutions make Phoenix a great place for small-business owners to get started.
Phoenix small business owner John Shaffer, who was featured in the magazine, received help from the city’s Small Business Development program for his idea to startup Rhino Sports, a sports surfacing company. "No business begins and survives, grows or thrives all by itself," says Shaffer.
"This validates the hard work we've planned to cultivate, an entrepreneurial spirit that pumps energy and success into the business community," said Mayor Phil Gordon. "Phoenix is an ideal city to start, develop and build a thriving business."
Compared to cities similar in size, Phoenix has a higher percentage of business owners who own their own buildings as opposed to leasing. This translates to long-term stability.
