Aggravated Assault on police officer

On October 7, 2009, at approximately 7:30 pm Phoenix Police Officers responded to the area of 4100 N. 55th Avenue reference shots fired call and subjects fighting. When officers arrived two of the subjects involved in the altercation ran from officers. One of the individuals was apprehended by one officer and the other suspect (later identified as a 16 year old Hispanic male )ran into an alley where the officer observed the suspect climbing over a block fence.

While the suspect climbed over the block fence, the officer immediately noticed the subject had a handgun and pointed the gun at the officer. The officer immediately fired multiple times at the suspect but the suspect made it over the wall.

After a 2 ½ hour extensive search, the suspect was located by officers in the area of 5500 W. Montecito. According to investigators the suspect suffered a minor gun shot wound (a graze wound) to his leg. No injuries to the officer.

The suspect was booked at the Maricopa County Juvenile Center for "Aggravated Assault".

As with all police involved shootings, this incident remains under investigation and the officer will be placed on administrative leave, in accordance with department policy.
