Attempted Homicide 6236 N. Black Canyon Freeway
Patrol officers responded to a shot person call on Sunday morning at 4:40 a.m. The shooting took place in front of a group of apartments located at 6236 N. Black Canyon Freeway. A 37 year-old victim had been shot twice and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Witness information led officers to believe the suspect, Robert Lee Heard, 28, was barricaded in an apartment inside the complex. A perimeter was set up, and just after 11:00 a.m. the Phoenix Police Department’s Special Assignment Unit made entry into the apartment but found it empty.
Later that same evening, Phoenix Police Assault Unit investigators were able to develop probable cause to have the suspect arrested. Major Offender Bureau detectives located and arrested the suspect at a motel at 1530 N. 52nd Drive. He was arrested without incident, interviewed, and booked into jail for attempted homicide and misconduct involving weapons.
