Police searching for double homicide suspect

Shots rang out in a central Phoenix neighborhood about 3:20 p.m. on Monday, January 4, 2009.  When police responded, they discovered two victims; one man was deceased at the scene and the other was clinging to life.

The witness who called police told investigators that she heard possibly three gunshots coming from an apartment next to hers.  The small complex is located near 16th Drive and Colter.  The woman explained that she left her apartment to see what was happening and she saw a “skinny” male wearing all black clothing and a black “hoodie” fleeing from the apartment, running south on the drive that separates the complex units.  She went inside the neighboring apartment and found one man lying on the living room floor and a second man in the bedroom of the residence. She quickly ran from the apartment and called for help.

Police and fire paramedics responded and the victim that was still alive was transported to the hospital where he died later in the evening.

Phoenix police are asking anyone with information regarding the two homicides to call the Phoenix Police Violent Crimes Bureau at (602) 262-6141 or Silent Witness at (480) W.I.T.N.E.S.S.  Callers to Silent Witness may remain anonymous.
