A man is dead after being hit while riding his motorized scooter near 12th Street and Hatcher. At around 9:40 p.m., on January 4, Phoenix Police officers responded to a call regarding a traffic collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian. Officers learned that the victim, 61 year-old William Schommer, was traveling south bound on 12th Street in his motorized scooter when the suspect vehicle, a 1990 white Jeep Laredo, also traveling south bound, struck the scooter from behind then fled the area. Mr. Schommer was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses provided a license plate for the vehicle, which was located a while later. Detectives have developed an investigative lead in this investigation, but no arrest has been made at this time.
