Kidnapping / Hostage leads to arrest of two
Suspect#1: Doroteo Estrada-Perez, H/M 38 years old
Suspect#2: Mariano Perez-Gonzalez, H/M 27 years old
Phoenix Police H.I.K.E Squad detectives conducted a kidnapping/hostage investigation on October 6, 2009. During the investigation detectives learned that a victim, H/M, 32 years old, was abducted over week ago and was not reported to the police when it occurred. Numerous ransom demands of the family to provide $100K ransom had been unfulfilled.
The victim was taken to a residence in area of 3600 N. 78th Drive. While being held, the victim overheard suspects stating they were no longer waiting for the ransom, and planned to bury the victim alive in a makeshift grave. While the suspects used a cement cutting machine and prepared the grave sight in one of the bedrooms, the victim managed to free himself and flee out a bedroom window. The victim contacted nearby neighbors and called police.
When officers arrived and obtained information from the victim they began a surveillance of the home. While waiting for the Special Assignment Unit (SAU) to respond, minutes later two suspects ran out of the residence possibly looking for the victim. The two suspects were apprehended by patrol officers.
When the SAU swept the residence for other possible suspects, they discovered that the suspects had sawed a 3X5 rectangle through the concrete foundation of a bedroom, and had dug out a pit to a depth of 5 ft to 6 ft. deep.
During the investigation, detectives learned the victim is possibly involved in other illegal activities that are currently being investigated.
The victim did not receive any injuries and was not fed while he was held hostage.
Suspect #1 was booked for Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault and Conspiracy to commit murder, all felony charges.
Suspect #2 was booked for kidnapping, Theft by extortion, Misconduct Involving weapons and Conspiracy to commit murder all felony charges.
