It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas … in fact, a report just came in from the North Pole media including the Elf Network, Reindeer Rag, and Santa’s Blog and Twitter! The report shines the spotlight on a 12-year-old Arizona girl named Kaitlyn Ferencik who created a Christmas tree ornament that now adorns this year’s U.S. Capitol Christmas tree in Washington, D.C.
After the Arizona tree was cut and brought to Phoenix for viewing, it traveled on to Washington, D.C. where it was displayed, decorated, and officially lit on December 8th. It was the first time Arizona was selected to provide the United States capitol Christmas tree since 1965. Kaitlyn’s ornament was randomly selected from over 10,000 entries submitted by Arizona children. In addition to having her ornament placed on the Capitol Christmas tree, Kaitlyn traveled to Washington with her mother and father (a Phoenix police officer), along with her teacher the proud trio watched as Kaitlyn helped the U.S. Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, light the tree.” Of the experience, Kaitlyn says, “It was awesome. I really enjoyed it. I kept thinking, ‘wake up it’s a dream’ but it wasn’t”. In fact, she says reality didn’t sink in until she met Arizona Governor Jan Brewer. State Forester Vicki Christensen says, “Arizona could not have asked for a better student representative, Kaitlyn made us all very proud.”
