Shortly before 11:00 a.m. , on December 30 th, 2009 , Phoenix police officers were called to a drainage area near the Roosevelt Canal . When they got there, they were contacted by two individuals who had been scavenging for scrap metal when they found a woman’s body in a concrete irrigation drainage pipe. The officers were directed to the vertical pipe where they found a deceased body about twelve feet down in the bottom. The victim was identified as 32 year-old Kelly Hillman, who appeared to have been murdered; she was likely in the pipe for less than a day.
