Phoenix police are searching for a 2-door, black, 2002-2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup with tinted windows. The vehicle may be slightly “lifted” and may have rear-end damage resulting from a deadly collision around 9:40 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, 2010 in the area of 83rd Avenue and Thomas Road. Two people are dead and three of four other victims are in critical condition; the fourth victim remains in serious condition.
Witnesses saw the Chevy Silverado and a red, year 2000, Ford Mustang traveling west on Thomas Road from 75th Avenue at a high rate of speed. The driver of the Ford Mustang, Alexandra Espinoza (18), lost control of the vehicle and collided with a large palm tree in the center median. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Also killed was a 14-year-old boy who had reportedly taken the vehicle without his parent’s permission; he was in the front passenger’s seat and died at the scene. Four others were in the vehicle including Espinoza’s sister (14) and the sister’s boyfriend (16) who were both ejected on impact and are hospitalized in critical and serious condition. Two other children were ejected from the car; the 14-year-old stepbrother of 14-year-old girl and his 3-year-old brother. The 3-year-old later died from his injuries.
Anyone with information about the outstanding vehicle is asked to call the Phoenix police. To remain anonymous, please call Silent Witness at (480) WITNESS; for Spanish, call (480) TESTIGO.
