Welcome to the 16th Annual Southwest Police Motorcycle Training & Competition

SPMTC 2012 LogoThe Phoenix Police Department Traffic Bureau is proud to be hosting the 16th annual Southwest Police Motorcycle Training and Competition on April 27 and 28,  2012.   The event is an opportunity for motor officers to share training techniques, while participating in a friendly competition.

The primary purpose of this event is to raise money for Special Olympics.  All proceeds raised directly benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Arizona through the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The event is a great training opportunity for motor officers to improve their riding skills. The first day, riders practice the course and exchange training ideas and techniques with other departments. During day two, several different competitions are held. There are team and individual honors awarded. The two-day event includes 16 hours of AZPOST certified training.

The site of this year’s competition will be Phoenix Municipal Stadium, 5999 E. Van Buren St.  The host hotel will be the Doubletree Suites, 320 North 44th Street, Phoenix, Arizona. There will be 8 hours of practice on Friday and the competition will be held on Saturday. The competition is a timed course and will consist of several exercises with penalties assessed for cone touches, knocking over cones, putting a foot down, etc. There will also be a team event, pair ride and slow ride competition. Awards will be given in the different events for several classes of motorcycles (BMW, Harley Davidson, Honda and Kawasaki.)

The application, liability waiver, bio sheet, rules and cone patterns will be available on this web site in the near future.  Thank you for your interest in the event and we look forward to seeing you in April.
