Just before noon on Sunday, January 10, 2010, three suspects committed an aggravated robbery at 3114 West Van Buren. A 52-year-old female was doing her laundry when she became the victim of a purse snatch. She attempted to hold on to her purse, however after being dragged 15 feet across the floor, the purse strap broke and the suspect made off with it.

The victim was accompanied by three of her children ranging in age from 14 to 22 years.  The children attempted to detain the one suspect and get their mother’s purse back. There was a physical struggle in the parking lot and as the suspects tried to get away in their white Cadillac sedan, they struck one of the children. Knowing the purse was still inside the Cadillac, the victim’s second son held on to one of the suspects through the passenger’s side window. With the car still in motion, the victim held on to the suspect until the driver of the Cadillac was able to throw him off and into the street.

The robbery suspect was identified by a Phoenix police detective as Manuel Salazar.  A second suspect, Crystal Trevino, aided in the robbery and allowed the use of her vehicle used in the crime. Both subjects are currently in custody. These suspects were also related to two other purse snatching robberies in west Phoenix. A portion of this crime was captured on a nearby surveillance camera. At the top of the screen, you will see the suspect vehicle flee the parking lot and then drive back by on Van Buren with the victim hanging on.
