Historic Marker Dedication for Officer Rusty Hawkins

In his 12-year career with the Phoenix Police Department, Officer "Rusty" Hawkins gained notoriety as a skilled negotiator with the Special Assignments Unit. The night of April 24, 1984, Hawkinds was on an undercover assignment when he was struck and killed by a passing motorist as he crossed a roadway. Twenty-five years later, on October 6, 2009, officers and family members gathered in that spot to dedicate a special historic marker in his memory and his honor.
