America's Friendliest Airport

PLANNING

Planning efforts are ongoing at the City’s three airports to provide better facilities and an enhanced travel experience for its visitors. View the 2006 Record of Decision here.

Height Zoning

Protecting the airspace around Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is vital to the economic development of the Valley. In 2006, the city of Phoenix amended the City Code to modify the existing 1971 airport height zoning ordinance.

The amendment revised the Airport Height Restrictions for buildings and other structures in downtown Phoenix. The Aviation Department is now seeking to amend the remaining 1971 height zoning ordinance. The proposed change is consistent with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and will help promote the safety of aircraft, people and property while potentially allowing additional height for development in areas near the Airport.

This amendment does not change any of the underlying zoning which may be more restrictive in height. Visit the links below for more information or e-mail us at: aviation.planning@phoenix.gov.
