International Women's Day Luncheon
The purpose of the annual Phoenix celebration of International Women's Day (IWD) is to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women and to raise money for scholarships for women to continue their education. For more than 18 years, the city of Phoenix, Phoenix Women's Commission (PWC) and the International Women's Day Steering Committee have hosted a luncheon to recognize the resilient spirit of women around the world and to provide educational scholarships to re-entry women in our community wanting to realize their educational dreams. Since 1991, more than $900,000 has been raised in this endeavor.
During these challenging economic times, these scholarship funds are more necessary than ever. To reduce administrative costs, the city and the PWC will be taking advantage of electronic communications to streamline IWD promotional activities. Leveraging technology in this way will not only allow more funds to flow directly into scholarships, but also lessens the city's "carbon footprint" by reducing paper and ink use.
