Councilman Claude Mattox

Claude Mattox, 55, began his four-year term on the Phoenix City Council on Jan. 3, 2000. He represents District 5, which includes west and central Phoenix with landmarks such as Cricket Wireless Pavilion; the Maryvale Baseball Stadium, spring training home to the Milwaukee Brewers; and the new Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox spring baseball complex at Camelback Ranch.

Mattox chairs the City Council Public Safety and Veterans Subcommittee and serves as a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee, and the Economy, Commerce and Sustainability Subcommittee.  Mattox serves as Chairman of the National League of Cities Energy, Environment, & Natural Resources (EENR) Steering and Policy Committee, a Board of Director and Treasurer of the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association (AMWUA), serves on the executive committee and board of WESTMARC (Western Maricopa Coalition), Ex-officio member of the Maryvale Revitalization Board of Directors and a Board of Director of Gomper's Habilitation Center.  He served as vice mayor of Phoenix City Council from January to December 2002.

Mattox has been active in the west Phoenix community for 27 years. He served as chairman of the Maryvale Village Planning Committee, Desert West Park Planning Committee, West Phoenix Cactus League Spring Baseball Coalition, Phoenix Surface Transportation Advisory Committee, and Maricopa Neighbors Airport Noise and Safety Committee.

He also served on the Board of Directors of the West Phoenix Business Alliance, Maryvale U.N.I.T.E., Phoenix Economic Development Task Force, and as a member of the Valley of the Sun West Phoenix Branch YMCA Founders Committee and the Desert Sky YMCA Extension Advisory Committee, and was a founding member of the Maryvale Citizens for Arts Programming Committee.

Mattox is vice president for National Western Vistas Real Estate. Mattox and his wife, Sherri, have lived in west Phoenix since 1979.
