Public Meeting - 40th Street: Loop 202 to McDowell RoadPublic Meeting - 40th Street: Loop 202 to McDowell RoadStreet Transportation<div class="ExternalClass437FC8B974AE48668039F2BD0B602A66"><p>As part of the Street Transportation Department's core mission, we are actively looking to improve the City's roadways to create a safe and efficient transportation network.</p><p> </p><p>In line with this effort, we have identified the pavement maintenance program as an integral opportunity to modify the existing striping configuration on select streets to create a street design that improves safety for people who walk, drive, ride bikes and use transit.  </p><p> </p><p><strong>40</strong><strong><sup>th</sup></strong><strong> Street between the Loop 202 and McDowell Road </strong>is scheduled for pavement maintenance this year. This segment of 40th Street connects people to the Grand Canal, Gateway Community College, bus lines and light rail. As part of the paving work, we are proposing<strong> </strong>to modify the existing striping on 40<sup>th</sup> Street to create designated travel lanes for bicycles; this will also help create additional separation between motor vehicle traffic and pedestrians.</p><p> </p><p>This proposal further enhances the connectivity of the City's bicycle lanes and promotes a street design that improves safety for all road users.
