Public Hearings

The Phoenix City Council is considering changing when city elections for Mayor and City Council are held from August and November of odd-numbered years, to the fall of even-numbered years at the same time as the statewide elections. This is often referred to as "consolidated elections". City offices and measures would appear on the same ballot with the races for federal, state, and county offices, and ballot propositions for the state and county.

This change would require amendments to the City Charter, which requires voter approval. Amendments could be submitted to voters on the state ballot this fall.

The change is being considered to potentially increase participation in city elections, since more voters tend to participate in the state elections, particularly in the November General Election. Holding City candidate elections with state elections would have several impacts for voters.

The City Council is seeking public comments on the proposed change. Several public hearing will be held in April to provide information to the public on the possible impacts, answer questions, and obtain public input. These public hearing will be held with the following Community Budget Hearings scheduled around the City for the public to comment on the proposed budget for FY 2018-19.
