Purpose

On Tuesday, May 21, 2019, the City of Phoenix will conduct a Runoff Election for Council Districts 5 and 8. Registered voters residing in the City of Phoenix, Council District 5 will elect a Councilmember to serve the remainder of a term that expires April 19, 2021. Registered voters residing in the City of Phoenix, Council District 8 will elect a Councilmember to serve the remainder of a term that expires April 17, 2023 (pursuant to a recent Charter amendment approved by voters and signed by the Governor).

Voting Centers

Voters in City of Phoenix elections are not required to vote at a specified polling place in the voter's precinct. Voter can use any of the 11 voting centers to cast a ballot. The voting centers will be open for voting for THREE DAYS. This method of voting is only available for City of Phoenix elections. For faster service, voters are encouraged to bring their driver license, state-issued identification card, or voter identification card.

The voting centers for this election will be open for three days:

Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Monday, May 20 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tuesday, May 21 (Election Day) from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Early Voting

City voters on the Permanent Early Voting List (PEVL) will automatically receive an early ballot by mail unless they submitted a request to not receive a ballot by mail. Voters who are not on the PEVL can vote by mail by requesting an early ballot from the City of Phoenix no later than Friday, May 10, 2019. Voters will be able to request an early ballot or check their early ballot status online or by contacting City of Phoenix Elections at 602-261-8683 (VOTE). In-person early voting will be available on the 15th floor of Phoenix City Hall for this election from Wednesday, April 24, 2019 to Friday, May 17, 2019.

Sample Ballot Pamphlet

The City will prepare and distribute a Sample Ballot Pamphlet. Voters who requested to obtain the pamphlet electronically, which reduces printing and mailing costs, will receive an e-mail notice when the pamphlet is available online at Phoenix.gov/Elections. Voters can add their names to the list or update their email address by visiting the City's election webpage or by calling the City Clerk Department at 602-261-8683. A pamphlet will be mailed to each residence in District 5 and 8 that has a registered voter and is not receiving the pamphlet electronically. The pamphlet will be distributed the week of April 15, before early ballots are mailed.
