Assistance for Voters with Disabilities
On Tuesday, May 21, 2019, the City of Phoenix will hold a Runoff Election. All registered voters residing in the City of Phoenix Council Districts 5 and 8 will elect a Councilmember in the Runoff Election. This election is required by the Phoenix City Charter because no candidate for this office received the majority of votes cast in the Special Election held on March 12, 2019. Registered voters residing in the City of Phoenix Council District 5 will elect a Councilmember to serve the remainder of a term that expires April 19, 2021, and registered voters residing in the City of Phoenix Council District 8 will elect a Councilmember to serve the remainder of a term that expires April 17, 2023.
Accessible voting devices that permit voters with disabilities to vote independently will be available for this election. These electronic voting devices allow voters to cast a ballot using a touch screen. Voters may also vote by listening to an audio version of the ballot and using a keypad designed for the blind and visually impaired to make choices. The touch screen and audio versions are both available in English and Spanish.
Accessible voting equipment will be available at all voting centers and during in-person early voting. For individuals who wish to vote early in person rather than by mail, early voting will be available during business hours at Phoenix City Hall, 200 West Washington Street, 15th floor from Wednesday, April 24 through Friday, May 17. All voting centers will have accessible voting equipment and will be open on Saturday, May 18, Monday, May 20, and Election Day, Tuesday, May 21.
