Background Information
On
Dec. 5, 2018, Urban Phoenix Project Recall PAC filed Recall Petition RC-2-18 in the office of the Phoenix City
Clerk, to recall District 7 Council Member Michael Nowakowski.
To be certified sufficient, Chapter XVII, Section 3 of the City of
Phoenix Charter requires this Recall Petition to have 1,337 valid signatures of registered voters residing in Council District 7. The
examination by City Clerk Department staff found that Recall Petition RC-2-18 contained enough
valid signatures to exceed the minimum number of signatures required by the
Charter. A
Certificate of Sufficiency is on file in the official records of the City of
Phoenix. The petition was certified sufficient on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019.
What are the next Steps in the Recall Process?
Pursuant to Title 19 of Arizona Revised Statutes, the affected Council Member may:
Resign within five (5) business days from certification date, by Jan. 10, 2019.
If the Council Member does not resign, the City Council shall call a Recall Election within 15 calendar days, by Jan. 25, 2019.
A Recall Election must be held on the next consolidated election date that is 90 days or more after the Council calls the Election. The next available election date is May 21, 2019.

Candidate packets are available to anyone interested in declaring their candidacy to run in the Recall Election for Council Member in District 7.
