Assistant Chief Rick Bartee

Rick Bartee is the Assistant Chief in charge of a number of critical Divisions for the Phoenix Fire Department.  He manages the Homeland Defense Bureau, AZ-TF1 FEMA/Urban Search and Rescue Team, Fire/Police Joint Homeland Defense Bureau, All Hazards Incident Management Team, Strategic Planning and Special Events Planning, the Phoenix Fire department’s Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) and, the State Homeland Security Grant Program (SHSGP) grants.

Chief Bartee began his fire service career in 1981.  He quickly progressed through the ranks working at busy fire stations as an Engineer, Captain, Battalion Chief and Shift Commander in the Central District and in Operations.

In 1999, he was promoted to Deputy Chief and over the next eight years he served in a number of critical roles including supervising the Health, Wellness and Fitness Center, the Emergency Medical Services Division (EMS), the South Mountain Fire District, Battalion 8 Commander, and North and South Shift Commander. Chief Bartee was promoted to his current position as Assistant Fire Chief in November of 2007.

Chief Bartee has participated in multiple high profile deployments.  He was the Rescue Team Manager for Arizona Task Force 1 (AZ-TF1) sent to assist at the World Trade Center in 2001and at Hurricane Katrina in 2005.  Chief Bartee led the Strike Team in 2003 when the Phoenix Fire Department deployed a team to the Space Shuttle Columbia incident.  Chief Bartee took the reins as the Task Force Leader of AZ-TF1 for Hurricanes Gustav and Ike in 2008.

In addition, Chief Bartee is a member of FEMA/USAR Blue Incident Support Team (IST) as a USAR Specialist. He is currently the National Task Force Representative for all 28 FEMA/Urban Search and Rescue Task Forces. Chief Bartee also serves as a member of the Executive Board of the Arizona Counter Terrorism Information Center, fusion center for the State of Arizona.
Chief Bartee obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from Grand Canyon University and an Associates of Applied Science Degree from Phoenix College.

Chief Bartee is married to Jennifer, and is the father of six children and two grandchildren.
