Interactive Art Experience Coming to Downtown PhoenixInteractive Art Experience Coming to Downtown Phoenix

A team of artists from local media and production company Union Digital will create a one-of-a-kind interactive art experience in downtown Phoenix on April 1 and 2. The installation – called "The Intersection" – will combine art and innovation using advanced digital projection technologies.

The artists will transform the large picture windows on the historic A. E. England building, turning the Central Avenue store front into a fishbowl of images that visitors inside and out of the building can interact with and alter. Video projections will be connected to motion sensors that, when activated, will cause a visual effect or change.

"The Intersection" was commissioned by the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture Public Art Program as part of Mayor Greg Stanton's PHX Innovation Games.

"The team at Union Digital will deliver an art experience to downtown Phoenix unlike anything we've ever seen before," said Stanton. "Our arts and culture community is already such a vibrant part of downtown – this two-night art event is going to draw even more people to our city's core to feel that creative energy first hand."

Union Digital is collaborating with artists Dustin Farrell and Hector Primero to produce the visual art component. Both artists are known for work that features Arizona and Phoenix landscape and imagery.

The commissioned art takes inspiration from the urbanization of downtown Phoenix – including its growing population and light rail system.

Crowds from April's First Friday art walk downtown will be encouraged to check out the art at Civic Space Park – just four blocks south. A series of surprise art pieces, produced by ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts students, along 1st St. will create a visual pathway for people to follow from Roosevelt Row to the park.

This two-night art experience is being made possible with support from Downtown Phoenix, Inc. and Friends of Phoenix Public Art.

What: Interactive art experience "The Intersection," created by Union Digital

When: Friday, Apr. 1, starting at 7 p.m.

                        Saturday, Apr. 2, starting at 7 p.m.

Where: A.
