Students Carry Flame of Hope in 11th Annual Torch Run
<div class="ExternalClassC7131F6FF8EE4203B6C9578BF19CA3D2"><p><em>5K run kicks off Martin Luther King Jr. Annual Awards Breakfast</em></p><p>PHOENIX – For the 11th year, local students will take to Phoenix streets to participate in the "Flame of Hope" Torch Run, officially opening the Martin Luther King Jr. Annual Awards Breakfast.</p><p>Students from Edison Elementary School and will be joined by Franklin Police and Fire High School students in the 5K run that goes through downtown Phoenix on Jan. 12, 2018. The high school students graduated from Edison and will continue to support the run.</p><p>"I'm very excited that a new generation of students will run alongside the high schoolers who were in this run when it started," said Valerie Churchwell, Small Business Engagement Manager for the City of Phoenix Aviation Department. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is an event sponsor and conducts outreach to neighboring communities and schools, including Edison Elementary School.</p><p>The event begins at 6:10 a.m. as participants depart Phoenix City Hall, run west to the State Capitol, then east to the Talking Stick Resort Arena before arriving at the Phoenix Convention Center North Ballroom at approximately 6:55 a.m. The students will open the annual breakfast with the presentation of the torch.</p></div>
