City of Phoenix Honored with Distinguished Budget Presentation AwardCity of Phoenix Honored with Distinguished Budget Presentation Award<div class="ExternalClassBA7E283A3F3A4073BA5063C40E9E34C7"><p>​The City of Phoenix was recently honored with a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its current annual budget. This is the 28th consecutive award for the city, which is bestowed through a peer-review process.<br><br>GFOA gives the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award to government organizations that most effectively present their budget information according to nationally-recognized guidelines. This ensures that the budget documents produced can serve as a policy guide, a financial plan, an operations overview, and a communications tool, and are clear to understand and encourage budget transparency.<br><br>Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories, and in the fourteen mandatory areas within those categories, to receive an award.<br><br>The city of Phoenix Budget and Research Department directs the preparation and administration of the city's annual Operating Budget, which for all funds, including General, Enterprise and Special Revenue Funds such as grants, and all debt service and pay-as-you-go capital costs, is approximately $4.42 billion.<br><br>GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program (Budget Awards Program) in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA's best practices on budgeting.​<br><br></p></div>4/17/2019 11:45:00 PMMatthew Heil602-534-0108
