The C-Suite Awards recognize top executives for their contribution and commitment to the community and their outstanding professional performance.<br><br>At the event Denise Olson, director of the city’s Finance Department, was named Chief Financial Officer of the Year, and Julie Watters, director of the Communications Office, was a finalist for Chief Marketing Officer.<br></p><p>“This recognition highlights what excellent work Denise does on behalf of all our residents to ensure the sound financial footing of the city organization as a whole, and what Julie does every day to share Phoenix’s world-class community with our residents and visitors,” noted Phoenix City Manager Ed Zuercher. “I’m proud that the Business Journal recognized our top-caliber leadership.” <br></p><p>Olson has served as Phoenix’s Chief Financial Officer since 2015, where she has been responsible for managing over 200 employees, $5.8 billion in total outstanding debt and over $2 billion in investments. Further, she is a member of numerous boards including the City of Phoenix Employees Retirement System, Phoenix Fire Employee Benefits Trust Fund, Long Term Disability Trust Fund and numerous boards for affordable housing projects. <br></p><p>Watters has served as Phoenix’s Communications Director since 2015, where she oversees public records, internal <br>communication to 14,000 employees and external communication to nearly 1.7 million residents, as well as <br>content production for the city website, social media platforms and city-owned cable TV station.  <br></p><span aria-hidden="true"></span><p>This year the C-Suite Awards provided recognition for CEOs, COOs, CFOs, CMOs, and others for their work inside and outside the company.
